Abstract: The winter wheat cultivar FDL Abund was registered in 2022 and patented in 2023. It was obtained by repeated individual selection from a hybrid population involving the breeding line F00628G34-2, backcrossed with the Otilia cultivar. The breeding line F00628G34-2 was selected from a cross between triticale and common wheat, which explains that the FDL Abund cultivar (like the Ursita cultivar, registered in 2021) inherited a 1A/1R wheat-rye translocation, that provides valuable agronomic traits, such as: a good stand establishment of the crop in autumn, high plant vigor and good resistance to most bunt races, present in Romania.
The FDL Abund cultivar has very good preharvest sprouting resistance determined in artificial conditions. In 2023 conditions, with a severe attack of yellow rust in many regions of the country, the FDL Abund cultivar was highlighted for its good resistance to this pathogen. It was tested in over 150 yield trials, performed in very diverse environmental conditions all over the country, overyielding on average the cultivar GLOSA by 9% in trials organized in research stations and by 12% in the official registration trials at the State Institute for Cultivar Testing and Registration (SIVTR). It proved a high yielding potential, with maximum yields over 10 tons/ha in trials performed in optimal conditions, both in research stations and in official registration trials. Bread-making quality of FDL Abund corresponds to processors’ requirements, being slightly superior to the cultivar Glosa.
